the science lab

all was quiet in Gotham high's science lab as a young redhead peeked through the window on the door.

" the coast is clear." ivy said quietly, worried that she might get in trouble. she probably wasn't supposed to be there, but what was wrong with wanting to see the science lab? it wasn't like she was going to steal chemicals from it or anything- she probably had things more lethal in her veins than anything in there....

Ivy looked over her shoulder. Jonathan and Harleen had come with her, but she was a pretty quick walker, and worried she might have last them.....

Lunch

As ivy made her way into the lunchroom, she was almost bowled over by the smell of the school lunch. there was no way whatever she was smelling could be natural, all mystery meat and hot dogs and such. Blech.

Thankfully, Ivy had been prepared for this. She reached into her bag and pulled out her lunch- a baby spinach and romaine salad with rasberries, madarin oranges, and wonton noodles, a peach, and a thermos full of her own special fruit-jucie blend. the juice was made mostly from different green fruits high in nutrients-it looked like green swamp water, but tasted sinfully sweet.

Ivy began to look around at the many tables. there were all the standard cliques that Ivy had seen in every movie in her life- jocks, airheaded bimboes, punks, goths, band geeks. Ivy didn't really fit into any of those, and didn't really want to sit with people who would simply annoy her. she quickly scanned the cafeteria once more for anyone interesting...

the bus stop

Ivy sighed. the bus was late.
it was bad enough that she was going to have to ride public transportation to school every morning, but now she was going to be late for her first day fo school an top of it.
cars whizzed by her, and she shifted her green, biodegradeable tote bag to her other shoulder. she hated Gotham. Absolutely hated it. she wished her parent's hadn't insisted they move after they found out about her and Dr. Woodrue.
and they had no idea how bad it had gotten.
but now, they were in this plantless, grey, stony city with smog for air.
not that the smog affected her, but it strangled the few flowers and trees.
oh well, at least gotham high had a botany class. and she'd probably have a better chance of getting into gotham state college.
Ivy turned to look at herself in the glass surface of the bus stop, examining her outfit one last time. she'd spent days agonizing over the decision, and found that she was still pleased. a tight, low-cut green sweater, black leather miniskirt, knee high black boots, and a black choker with a rose.
Ivy smiled and pushed a strand of carrot-red hair behind her ear. she took out a tube of lipstick she'd made with red roses for pigmentation and smoothed one mroe coat of it across her lips.
no one'll be able to resist you, she thought.
she put the lipstick back and looked at her feet. there was something growing imagine, something growiing out of this ground!
Ivy knelt down and stared at the tiny, purple flower pressing out of the sidewalk, trying its hardest to survive in this hellish place.
ivy smiled and touched the plant.
"grow," she whispered "for me..."
maybe this place wasn't going to be so bad after all...
